My first day in Japan together with Mio in our beautiful new home. And no self-respecting Japanese home is complete without a hyousatsu on display outside – a plate bearing the family name written in kanji (or in the case of gaijin such as myself, romaji)

Interesting fact for the day (courtesy of whatjapanthinks.com): in Japan Google has responded to privacy concerns around it’s Street View service by blanking out hyousatsu alongside the faces and car registrations that they have had to hide elsewhere

So you won’t find it on Google but here is an exclusive peek at our very own – double-barrelled – hyousatsu…

Our first 'hyousatsu'
